In a bizarre incident, Somnath Dhotre, an under trial who was brought to Sassoon Hospital for treatment of piles, managed to escape from the hospital yesterday.
Though Dr Vijaya Sardesai, resident medical officer, denied Dhotre being admitted there, the hospital authorities believe that he must have escaped before the treatment started. A case has been registered against him at Bund Garden police station.
According to PI Sudhakar Kate, Dhotre escaped by deceiving the guards on pretext of using the washroom. "He was arrested on robbery charges by Bund Garden police. He has cases of robbery and house breaking registered against him," he said.
Dhotre had been lodged in Yerawada jail for committing robbery in Chatushrungi.
However, yesterday's incident was not a one-off case. On November 10, Kashinath Gaikwad (24), who was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital, managed to escape bending the bars of a toilet.
